It is best to join the Air Cadets between 13 and 16 years of age.
This is so that you can achieve the maximum results with the organisation. Once in, you can stay until your 20th birthday. Occasionally we accept new Cadets above the age of 16 where they have a definite aim to join the armed forces and need Air Cadet service to help them succeed in their application.
Current subscriptions are £15 per month, payable by bank mandate from week 5.
All new Cadets (Junior Cadets) start on a 12 week recruit programme which covers:
The ATC
The RAF
History of flight
Principles of flight
Airmanship
Basic navigation & map reading
Initial expedition training
Communications
Drill & uniform
Subjects are tested verbally at Part 1 (Second Class Cadet) and Part 2 (First Class Cadet)
Once a Cadet achieves part 1 they are enrolled as full members and receive their ID book and have their uniform issued. When they achieve part 2, they receive their First Class badge and are ‘Flighted’, meaning they leave Red Arrows Flight and join Tornado or Typhoon Flight.
If you would like to join, go to the Contact Us page for details and to submit an enquiry form.
